For those who own a small business and offer group health insurance.

Myself and my employee are currently covered under a CareFirst Small Group Plan. The first year, it wasn’t bad but each year after, they have covered less and less and the cost has exploded! I’ve paid nearly $6k in premiums between myself and my employee so far this year and on my end, the only things that have been covered were my birth control and the first primary care appointment of the year which to my understanding, is mandated to be covered at no cost under federal law so I can’t even give them credit for that. My employee has had procedures covered (kinda) but has received large bills despite being on a top tier plan. Neither of us have come close to our deductibles even with the out of pocket costs.

We previously looked into Cigna but they only offer group insurance to businesses with more than 50 employees. We didn’t even bother looking into Kaiser as we like our current doctors, all of which are out of network, and don’t want to switch.

We have considered going through the marketplace individually and just paying for them with the business account but it’s really not much cheaper than doing a group policy. (So much for AFFORDABLE care act)

This leaves us with United Healthcare to look into.

Does anyone here have experience with United Healthcare Group Plans? I’ve gotten basic quotes and it’s half the cost premium-wise and the deductible is a quarter of what it is with CareFirst. On paper, they look good. I wanted to get some personal experiences since despite what CareFirst says they will cover, it didn’t really turn out to be the case.
