I’m desperate, please help me -marketplace insurance- Cigna sucks big time
I really need help claryfing things and knowing my options. We are so tired of calling the insurance getting no help and no anwers. We live in Texas. My father in law is sick and he needs an operation. We have a small bussiness that we run, my father in-law, my husband and I. We have always used marketplace to select our insurance even while my husband was employed. We had always had Blue Cross Blue Shield and for better or worse it has worked for us. Most hospitals, clinics and specialists take it, so we have no complains in that regards.
In 2023 marketplace did some mayor changes in the cost of insurance, and dropped many companies, BCBS turned awfully expensive and the only plan that we could afford was Cigna. So we took Cigna, it seemed a company big enough, recognized enough so we weren't worried. Turns out that nobody takes it. Out of all our doctors, specialists, hospitals, clinics, nobody takes it. No problem, we get new ones, but no one will take Cigna. We still have to pay for it every month but it is basically useless to see a doctor. We have been paying out of pocket for all visits and care. When we call Cigna to ask to help us find an specialist, anyone, anywhere that can see my father in-law, they are of no help at all. They can't find anyone that takes the insurance either, or they just hang up on us. Marketplace told us that we couldn't change insurance plans now, it's too late and that unless we move out of state or someone dies -which might actually happen if my father in-law can't get an operation- we can't do it.
So we are basically stuck and in a pretty shitty situation with my father in-law, he is even considering going to another country to have his operation but he is 90 years old now, so it's not ideal.
Help. What can we do? I don't understand how insurance plans work. Could I just get a new private plan? Is there really nothing we can do but just wait it out with Cigna? Any suggestions will be aprettiated. Thanks
