Insurance won’t tell me if GLPs/WL meds are covered

I’m currently on the phone with United Healthcare Illinois. The representative won’t tell me if any GLP-1s or weight loss medications are covered unless I have an “active plan”. He will not tell me unless I currently have them as insurance.

I explained that I do not want to join their insurance unless I know if my medications are covered which I think is reasonable…

Is this normal? I know many people will say to just google the formulary or something. This isn’t always accurate and with the hundreds of plans it’s hard to find out specifically if MJ is covered.

The guy seems really ignorant and anxious. He just keeps repeating “you need to have an active plan before I can tell you what’s covered” and when I asked him how prospective members can determine if they want to buy United healthcare if they aren’t allowed to see what all of the benefits and coverages are he just repeated the same thing!

I do have a small plan sheet from my employer but it doesn’t tell me what medications are covered. I really don’t want to join their plan just for my medications to be not covered and no one could tell me beforehand.

I reached out to HR and he told me to call UHC. So that isn’t an option either. He literally said “I’m not sure if GLP are covered”

I’m beyond frustrated! The three plans are core PPO, choice plus PPO, And navigate HMO.

Can someone tell me if this is reasonable or if what I’m saying makes sense? Am I the ignorant one? Is that normal practice and I’m just not looking in the right place for information?
