Last month of cobra ending on 1st, despite invoice

Our COBRA coverage last day was April 1, and we are planning to switch to marketplace insurance. However, we made the plan to start May 1, because we received an invoice from the cobra administrator that said the coverage period for the insurance was 4/1-4/30. The premium was very little, clearly for 4/1 only. However, we assumed the employer was offering a grace period until the end of the month with the coverage as it seemed this is sometimes offered.

The COBRA administrator (health equity) says that they don’t “update” the invoices to reflect the actual coverage period and that coverage actually ends 4/1 as they sent me in a termination letter previously.

So, now I’m stuck with a month without any insurance.

Is what the administrator saying seem reasonable? It would make sense to me except that the invoice they sent us and we relied on specifically said we had a coverage period of 4/1-4/30, which is why we set our exchange insurance to start 5/1.
