Hello!

I am weighing options for health insurance plans on marketplace and finding it a bit challenging to navigate this situation. I am a contractor/freelancer working remotely. I have established residence in Colorado for 10 years (own a home) and live there for a portion of the year and pay taxes there. I live in Louisiana for another large portion of the year (~5/6 months, renting). I travel quite a bit for work and pleasure and will be spending 2 months in Minnesota this summer.

I’m not sure if this exists, but I’m looking for a health insurance plan that will cover me for primary care (not just emergencies) in Colorado and Louisiana, and emergencies when I travel (and for shorter 1-3 month stints in Minnesota and elsewhere). I don’t take any prescriptions and I’m not currently being seen for any care regularly, but I do appreciate the luxury of being able to see a primary care provider and any specialists (maybe a dermatologist) in the state I’m living in. I don’t want any gaps in coverage.

I’ve heard that one option would be to purchase a plan in the state I live in “most of the time” and be covered for just emergencies elsewhere (not my preference, as the time is split pretty 50/50). I’ve also heard that I would potentially be able to buy a new plan each time I move (this seems like a headache, and also potentially leaves gaps in coverage, but maybe it is simpler than I’m thinking and the only viable option.) Ideally I would like to spend less than $300/month for decent care, but again, I am currently not being seen for anything regularly (thinking that may also be a shot in the dark in this country.)

Appreciate any insight and thank you in advance!
