WELCOME PROGRESS ON CLADDED BUILDING INSURANCES WITH GOVERNMENT BACKED PI SCHME FOR EWS1 ASSESSORS

Back In January 2021 after numerous representations to Government the BIBA Manifesto called for Government to create a temporary PI solution to unlock the delay in making residential cladded buildings safe, this issue evolved in our 2022 Manifesto and so we are delighted to see the announcement today on the Governments new EWS1 PII scheme.

Government today announced they will provide state-backing to a selected insurer who will be administering insurance policies to qualified professionals. The scheme will launch in September 2022, enabling competent professionals to access the indemnity cover they need to undertake external wall assessments.

DLUHC has signed contracts with SCOR UK, an insurance provider, and MGAM Limited to deliver the Government-backed professional indemnity insurance scheme for EWS1 assessors. A press notice issued by SCOR and MGAM can be found here.

Alongside the press notice, there is a Written Ministerial Statement by Housing Minister Stuart Andrew informing Parliament of the commercial arrangements the Department has entered into.

Full details will follow in due course from Government. A big thank you to our members who gave their expertise in helping DLUHC to progress to this point.

In the meantime, we will be meeting housing Safety Minister Lord Greenhalgh on Thursday to discuss the ongoing challenges with property insurances for high rise residential buildings with cladding.

A message from BIBA’s Graeme Trudgill? FCII, Executive Director. See his Linkedin Post here.
