‘Dangerous’ A303 driver caught driving at 128mph on icy road

Last week, a driver on the A303 in Somerset was caught going at a shocking 128mph, nearly double the 70mph speed limit. Avon and Somerset Enforcement Officers have described the driver as “reckless, selfish, and dangerous” for their actions on the icy road.

Police describe the driver as “reckless, selfish, and dangerous”

The police have taken to social media to express their disappointment and condemnation of the driver’s actions. In a tweet, ASPolice Roads Policing (RPU) said: “Reckless, selfish & dangerous..!! This driver was captured at 128mph by one of our FATEL5 enforcement officers a couple of days ago. It’s the A303 in Somerset and a 70mph limit which in the cold and icy conditions we’re experiencing is too high, so nearly double that is.”

This behaviour is not only illegal but also puts the lives of other road users in danger. Such high speeds can also cause significant damage to the vehicle and the road. The driver faces severe penalties for their actions, including fines, points on their licence, and even a driving ban.

Stay in control

Driving at such high speeds on an icy road is extremely dangerous, as ice can make roads slick and slippery, making it difficult to maintain control of your vehicle. In these conditions, drivers are required to slow down, as it takes longer to stop and it’s harder to steer. Going at such high speeds on an icy road increases the risk of an accident and can lead to serious injury or death.

It’s important for all drivers to remember that speed limits are in place for a reason and that it’s essential to drive with caution and adjust your speed to the road conditions. The safety of all road users should be the top priority, especially when driving on icy roads where the risk of accidents is much higher.

Speed limits are in place for a reason

Speeding can have a significant impact on your insurance.

When you are caught speeding, it is considered a moving violation and will be added to your driving record. This can make it more difficult to find affordable auto insurance, as most insurance companies view drivers with moving violations as higher risk.

If you are convicted of speeding at 128mph, it is considered a criminal offence and you may face severe penalties such as fines, points on your licence, and even jail time. In addition, your insurance company may increase your premium or even cancel your policy. Some companies may even refuse to renew your policy in the future.

Speeding can also impact insurance

If you are involved in an accident while speeding, your insurance company may deny your claim and refuse to pay for any damages. This is because excessive speed is considered a contributing factor in many accidents, and insurance companies are not likely to cover any damages caused by your reckless behaviour.

Conclusion

It’s important to note that the consequences of speeding at this level are severe, and it is not worth risking it. It’s always best to obey the speed limit and drive safely to avoid any penalties, and fines and to avoid putting yourself and others at risk.
