The engines have roared, the votes are in, and we’re down to the final five! The Safely Insured Modified Customer Car of the Year 2024 is really heating up!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the public vote! From gratuitously lowered imports to meticulously restored classics, the competition was fierce.

But now, the ultimate decision falls on the shoulders of a true drifting legend – Phil Morrisson of Driftworks! He’ll be taking a closer look at each finalist, judging them on a combination of modifications, performance enhancements, and overall aesthetic appeal.

So, without further ado (in no particular order) let’s meet the incredible finalists who impressed you, the public, and have a chance to be crowned the champion!

Dale’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition

Get ready for a power surge! Dale’s Evo VI isn’t your average Lancer. This Tommi Makinen Edition is a meticulously modified machine built for speed. Under the hood, extensive upgrades unleash a whopping 417.9bhp. A larger turbo, free-flowing exhaust, and a beefed-up cooling system ensure this beast performs flawlessly. Dale’s focus on pure performance is evident not just in the engine, but also in the upgraded suspension for razor-sharp handling and the stripped interior that sheds unnecessary weight.

Thanwa’s Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R

Hold on tight for a thrill ride! Thanwa’s Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R isn’t for the faint of heart. This isn’t your average Skyline; it’s a custom-built monster crafted for pure driving bliss. Under the hood lies a heart of pure power – an Abbey Motorsport built engine churning out a staggering 512bhp. Garrett turbos push the limits, while a free-flowing HKS exhaust lets the engine roar. A Link G4+ ECU acts as the brain, ensuring everything runs like clockwork.

Thanwa hasn’t just focused on power; the exterior boasts a full Nismo body kit for an undeniably aggressive look. Tein coilovers keep handling razor-sharp, and Rays Volk Racing wheels complete the performance package.

But the magic truly lies within the driver’s seat. Forget fancy sound systems (although Thanwa has a Kenwood for good measure) – this R33 GT-R is all about the pure, exhilarating connection between driver and machine. It’s a car brimming with character and feedback, begging to be pushed to its limits.

Jake’s 1964 Pontiac Catalina

Meet Jake’s 1964 Pontiac Catalina – a sun-kissed survivor and true desert warrior with a story etched in its very form. This classic American muscle car boasts the legendary 6.4L Pontiac V8 under the hood. While it might not break horsepower records, it delivers honest, reliable power and a guaranteed head-turning rumble.

The Catalina’s exterior is a unique conversation starter at every show. Years spent basking under the relentless Arizona sun have baked a one-of-a-kind textured finish onto the upward facing surfaces. It’s a badge of honor, a testament to this car’s enduring spirit and resilience.

Chris Vincent’s Toyota Supra A80 HKS

Fasten your helmet and prepare for liftoff! Chris Vincent’s Toyota Supra A80 HKS is a driver’s dream built for speed and open-air exhilaration. The 3.0L engine thrums with 350bhp, begging to be unleashed on the road.

But this Supra isn’t just about power; it’s a driver-focused experience. HKS goodness flows throughout the interior, from the Nardi steering wheel that fits perfectly in your hands to the supportive Bride Eurostar seats that hug you through every corner. Even the floor mats scream performance heritage. The finishing touch? Iconic Blitz Technospeed Z1 alloys that complete the package.

Chris craves the pure, visceral experience of driving this legend. With the roof down and the engine roaring, this Supra is a perfect blend of performance, heritage, and pure driving bliss.

Will’s Volvo 940

Will’s lovingly restored 1996 Volvo 940 is a head-turner. Its 2.3L turbocharged engine delivers classic Volvo performance complemented by a host of stylish upgrades. A 3-inch custom exhaust lets everyone know it’s coming, while BC Racing coilovers lower the stance for a more aggressive look.

The eye-catching 17-inch gold JR6s wheels and Nardi steering wheel add a touch of class both inside and out – but the true charm of this Volvo lies in the wave of nostalgia it evokes, sparking memories for everyone who encounters it. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of these Swedish wagons.

We’re excited to see who Phil Morrisson chooses as The Safely Insured Modified Customer Car of the Year 2024!
