BCBS New Medication Service- Check Medication Refills

Hi all,

I’m not sure where to begin but I wanted to at least try to spread the word to check your prescriptions if you have Blue Cross Blue Shield. Recently I ran out of my SSRI medication which is strange because CVS usually notifies me when a refill is available at least a week before I run out. But I wasn’t notified by cvs or my insurance so looked online, where it said the refill should’ve happened a week ago, so I called cvs. Apparently BCBS told them not to refill my prescription because I was opted into this “mail order” system (through BCBS) where they ship your medications directly to you. But the thing is, I never received my medication through the mail either. Apparently if you don’t specifically opt out, they automatically opt you into this mail order system without any notification. I had to call BCBS and opt out (you can only opt out over phone) then call CVS back and asked them to refill my prescription. This is somewhat a rant but also a notification to members of BCBS to check so no one ends up in the same situation I was in. I’m happy to answer any questions about this but please double check when it comes to important medication!
