In PA. Office visit was short; maybe ten minutes tops, probably less. My insurance card shows $0 for office visits. I received a bill from the doctor's group and a statement from the insurance Co. I called the insurance Co. and asked why they're not paying as my card has 0$ office visits. They said discussions in the visit aren't covered. Called the doctor's billing and they say they bill the insurance Co. on the doctor's notes. Now remember how short my visit was. Ok let's get specific. Question asked of me was do I want a colonoscopy? Me: No, next question. Billed as discussion. Me: asked to get Rx on 90 day refill instead of 30. Billed as discussion of hypertension. As well as one other really wacked discussion that never happened. As an afterthought a stethoscope was was used before leaving the room. Is this the new normal? The amount is not huge its the principal. Am I wrong in thinking that questions are not discussions? Would taking this to the state insurance department be worth while. The whole thing smacks of fraud to me.
