Cannot get provider to actually bill insurance – don’t want to be on the hook

In January 2023, I went to the Rothman Institute's urgent care in NJ for a shoulder injury. (They are a large and generally highly reputable orthopedic group with offices in Philly and NJ and I think NYC area now – their reputation just adds to my frustration here.) They billed my insurance for the visit, I paid my part etc., zero issues. The only reason I mention this is because it at least confirms they have my info and are capable of using it properly.

In February, I went to one of their offices for a follow up for the same injury and this is where it gets off the rails. Their bill for this visit lists my insurance as covering nothing, which is definitely incorrect as it should be covered, but further my insurance has absolutely no record of the transaction even as a denial. If nothing else it should count against my deductible.

I have tried to call them 3 times over the last few months and gave up after literally hours on hold. I also filled out their online form that the the billing department hold music told me about hundreds of times over those hours on hold each of those 3 times. I've never received any feedback other than the automated email that they accepted my form. Finally, I wrote a letter with all of the info above (and more specifics) and copies of my insurance information and literally mailed it to their billing office. It's been a month and I've heard nothing.

I'm more than willing to pay what I owe here, but I'm not sure how else I can get them to do what they need to do to make it the right amount. I feel like the longer this goes, the less likely it is to be resolved positively for me.
