Cigna Shows Claim of $1350 for Medication

Hey all,

So, I got hit with a claim on the MyCigna website for $1350 for a medication I filled at Publix. I haven’t received a bill or EOB from insurance yet nor have I received a bill from Publix.

From the start, I was prescribed a medication from my psych, and she said it needed a pre-approval. I got a pre-approval letter approx. 10 days later from Cigna with no explanation of how much Cigna would pay, naturally. I picked up the prescription from the pharmacy and Publix said I owed 0$ at the time I left with it. I unfortunately did start using the medication so couldn’t return it.

After calling insurance, they said I owed this balance on the medication because of my high deductible plan (I think deductible is 4000-5000). I haven’t asked who exactly I owe it to yet but am told it might bounce back to Publix.

I did get a coupon from the medication website but Publix has told me that they still show 0 and can’t apply anything until the balance shows the 1300.

My questions are as follows: Is the bill going to be from Cigna or Publix? Will Publix allow me to retroactively apply a coupon to the balance if it shows up for them? Am I screwed out of this money entirely and fighting for nothing? Should I just wait for insurance to sort this out? Thanks for your time.
