Claim for air ambulance “not medically necessary “

I was in hospital #1 on September 11, 2022 & I was 27 weeks pregnant. I was having complications and hospital #1 told me they did not have the capability to take care of a 27 week old baby so they wanted to transport me to hospital #2. Originally they wanted to transport me via ground ambulance but later decided air ambulance would be better because I was having severe preeclampsia side effects and was facing “possible abruption”. I have air ambulance on my current insurance plan but it is only covered in “medically necessary” situations. For context the hospitals are about 40 miles away from one another. I just received a letter in the mail stating my claim for air ambulance was denied because it wasn’t deemed “medically necessary”…. As if people can just be air lifted if it isn’t medically necessary?

I am looking for advice on what to include in my appeal with my insurance company. They are saying the denial is because “the information we have does not show ground transport would be too long (greater than 30 minutes) or you were in life threatening danger”

Mine and my baby’s life were both in danger and abruption can happen in the blink of an eye so I’m confused how they can make this decision. Please help.
