CT scan claim denied, can I switch to self pay?

Hello,

My wife had a CT scan at an imaging center last week. Upon seeing my insurance, I see the claim was denied. I did not do my part of checking in network providers before scheduling. It’s my first time dealing with this since we’re very anxious.

When I scheduled her CT scan, they got my insurance member number. Upon checking in, they never mentioned anything to me and just got an amount saying that it’s our family deductible. They charged $350 something so I assumed they checked (which is my mistake).

In their website, I see the self pay cost was only $200. I should have self paid instead.

The denied claim amount was $1000 something. 2 questions.

Do I have to pay the remainder ($650 ish) to the imaging center? We have not met our 8k deductible yet.

Can I just switch it to the self pay fee instead even if they charged a claim to the insurance already? Maybe get a $150 credit?

I’m kinda sad tbh. I write the “heartbeat” code that health insurance companies rely on yet I do not understand how insurance pays or the healthcare systems charge at that time. I’m kinda struggling with dealing with debts, investments, aging parents, and now my wife’s health (which is the most important thing to me right now). Sorry needed to vent out.

I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you! learning a lot from the posts here.
