A few weeks ago I burnt both my hands in a fire that started under the hood of my truck. I don’t have health insurance and imagine the bill is going to be in the neighborhood of 20-50k. The ambulance ride alone is 4k. What should I do?

My auto insurance will only cover 1k in medical and the rest is up to me. It’s bad enough that I grinded for years to make enough for a down payment on this truck and now after only owning it for 2 months it’s totaled. Everyone keeps saying bankruptcy but I don’t want to throw away everything I’ve earned over a small accident. I really need help or I’m going to go crazy. I make too much for emergency medical but not enough to afford these bills and live a decent life.

I’m 22 and help my mom pay rent since she has an autoimmune disease and takes care of my brother who is autistic. I’ve slaved my body away to get to this point, working 60+ hours a week just for it to all burn down literally and figuratively.

Sad that I would be in a better situation right now if I wasn’t working so hard to make mine and my families life better as I would qualify for emergency medical. Screw this medical system.
