Essential medication went from $3 to $300

Hey yall, I need some help,

So I started a new job 3 months ago and they offer a pretty good health insurance package, so I took it and dropped my NYS health insurance (w/new job I was way above income anyways) however, my issue was that I didn't see that I have to meet a $1500 put of pocket maximum in order for the insurance to finally pull their weight. So, when it comes down to the essential drug, concerta, the drug went from $3 to literally $300. That's INCLUDING their discount card. I have super bad ADHD and it's the main reason why I ended up getting academically dismissed last fall. I stopped taking my medication after a couple days because I wasn't sure how I'd be able to do it monthly until I met the deductible.

Is there a way I can get the insurance to pay more on the medication since it's basically required for me to function? I have to drink 4-5 redbulls throughout my day to get me going. I just started taking it again and the Concerta helps dramatically. I went from being late to work to 30 mins early, able to keep up with my chores, work on budgeting, meal prep and stuff like that. Without this medication, I cant do much.

And for those who would recommend a generic version, I tried. It's extremely bad. It's supposed to have methylphenidate in it but it puts me to sleep. It's equivalent to taking amoxacillin. (however you spell it)I don't remember the name, but for some reason, it's the only generic carried literally in the whole town.

So, is it possible to negotiate with the insurance company to have them pay slightly more on the meds? If I can pay $150/month that'd be amazing. Can I get a doctor and/or psychologist to write a letter supporting my claim?
