Good idea to skip health insurance for a month?

I’ve got a family of 4 and have continuously had health insurance since as long as I can remember. I renewed my health insurance for 2023.

Recently I discovered that my family can save a lot on taxes if the health insurance were simply under my wife’s name rather than mine. (She is self-employed and can deduct the entire cost of health insurance as a business expense. We don’t get any subsidies at all for health insurance.)

So my wife applied today at my state’s exchange. After 30 minutes of filling out forms and purchasing the same plan we’ve had for years, we got the confirmation screen. And I was depressed to see that coverage doesn’t start until February.

So now I’m contemplating going through the entire month of January without health insurance. As long as nothing incredibly awful happens, it won’t make much difference. We have a super high deductible (HSA plan) and never hit it anyway.

Is there some kind of catastrophic health insurance I could buy just for one month?

Am I crazy to try and go without insurance for a month?
