High Deductible Health Plan

Hi there. I am confused about whether I should switch my family HMO to a high deductible health plan. I go to the doctor frequently for different health conditions and my spouse goes to some appointments too.

Every website I’ve read online says that if you go to the doctor a lot that you shouldn’t do a high deductible plan.

I don’t see why not because for the high deductible plan the deductible is $6000 and after you pay the deductible, all appointments and meds and services are 100% covered. Plus my employer would contribute $4400 to help offset the high deductible.

The hmo has a deductible of $1500 and you have a $50 copay for every specialized visit. Specialized visits don’t count towards the deductible. Only labs and X-rays do. After you meet the deductible you still have to pay the $50 copay for appointments but all labs and X-rays are entirely covered.

I feel like it seems like the high deductible plan is better for someone who goes to the doc a lot. Am I missing something?

Thanks!
