HMO or HDHP? Or other?Planning for a baby soon(ish).

It’s open enrollment through my spouse’s employer-sponsored health insurance. We’ve been on the HDHP since we’re generally healthy but find ourselves reconsidering which plan to choose as we’re wanting to start a family soon.

I realize childbirth is very expensive and we’ll likely reach our OoP max but would that be just for the mother as an individual? How much more expense would a newborn likely have that goes toward their own deductible/OoP max? I feel like that’s what tips it one way or another between the HMO or HDHP.

There’s also a 3rd option is called a Point of Service plan that replaces their previous CIMP. I’m less familiar with this plan but you get access to a FSA (sounds less appealing than an HSA but I’m not well versed).

The plans are; HMO – $552/month, no deductible, $1500 individual OoP max, and $3000 family OoP max.

HDHP is only $46/month, but a $3200/$6400 deductible, and $6750/$13,500 OoP max.

PoSP $269/month, $1000/$3000 deductible, and $3000/$6000 OoP max.

What makes the most sense? Assuming we hit the OoP max and including the monthly premiums in the cost, that’d make the PoS plan the least expensive right? Should we factor in anything more than that? Or is this a really obvious answer?

I’d appreciate any insight anyone could offer!
