How Can Blood Work Be No Longer Considered Preventative?

Every year I get a basic check up, and as part of that, I get blood work. Nothing special or out of the norm. I either will tell the docs, or they'll ask me if I am getting blood work and I tell them yes. And every year I don't pay a cent … except this year.

I got a bill in the mail that I have to pay for both my Comprehensive Test, and my Cholesterol Test. The latter they said they filed it under the wrong code, but the prior the gal said "oh that's no longer considered preventive care"

How is that even possible? My understanding of the ACA is all preventative care is covered 100% by insurance, and to me, the blood work I got was 100% preventative. So how the heck can the insurer just go "nah we decided it's not"?

For the record, it's UHC, who in the past has been fine. We just switched back to them this year and it's been nothing but a pain. For instance, they offered a "Gold" plan, higher premiums, but a lower limit needed to hit the 10% deductible. I chose this plan because of a medication, that ever since I've been on HSA, i have to pay full price for (8 years), would actually save me money in the long run. However, out of the blue I now I am paying only 14% of the cost out of the box. It may seem "Great", but because of this, I am actually paying more this year in premiums and medication (in the meeting we had they claimed there was no discount, like a bait and switch)
