Husband’s employer changing companies mid-year. What options do we have to maintain coverage?

Hey all,

I’m currently a dependent on my husband’s healthcare plan through Anthem BCBS, and we live in Nevada. Both of us are employed full time. His employer is changing healthcare providers (to UHC) and they’re stating that our current coverage will end Sept 30th to start a new policy year on Oct 1. I had thought that all health plans run for a calendar year, but I’ve been googling and learned that a policy year can be whenever a company wants, I guess?

We are planning on switching to my employer’s health insurance because they’ll be a better fit for us than UHC would be, but they won’t do open enrollment until November for plans starting Jan 2023. We both have regular tests/medications/appointments that we need to maintain, so we can’t be without healthcare for 3 months.

I’d like to know what options we have here? From what I’ve read I don’t believe we’d qualify for COBRA or a Medicaid enrollment period because we’d be voluntarily declining coverage. But it also feels sort of entrapment-y, since changing the policy year like this basically forces us to go to this new plan, so I really feel like there should be a better option. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated; thanks everyone!
