Insurance forcing me to use OptumRX and I don’t want to. Is there anything I can do?

Hello all, this is my first post here so if there’s anything wrong please let me know.

I am on several psychiatric and sleeping medications, including ones I absolutely need for my crippling anxiety, panic attacks and depression. Without them I cannot function I get withdrawals within 24 hours and have migraines and cannot even fathom going to work due to that and just intense lethargy.

Anyway, I almost ran out this month when I called my pharmacy to make sure they were ready for pick up after my provider sent them in. My insurance company did not mention to me that they would only cover 2 months of in-person retail pharmacy pick up and after that I have to use a mail service. So they wouldn’t approve my prescriptions, and I was almost out. So after fighting for two days on the phone they approved an override one time only.

However, I have used Optum before and I do not like them. I prefer to pick them up from my local pharmacy, especially since some of the medications interact or can have side effects and I have questions usually every time. As well, we are still doing trial and error with some medications and I don’t want to get a 3 month supply of something that might not work.

Is there anything I can do? My provider does not want to give 3 month auto refill prescriptions anyway, as I see them twice a month to monitor my condition. As well I enjoyed going to the pharmacy because it helped me with my controlled exposure for my social phobia and encouraged me to get out of the house.

I am just so frustrated and was hoping someone knew of a work around.

Thank you!
