Insurance won’t pay for an MRI and my doctor is completely MIA, what do I do?

I live in Florida and have Aetna as my insurance through my employer.

So I twisted both ankles badly five weeks ago. No bones broken, according to an x-ray, but not healed still. My doctor about three weeks ago wanted me to get an MRI done to see if I tore anything. I set the appointment, but the insurance denied it and apparently went peer-to-peer with my doc? I called the insurance two weeks ago and they said they were actively in contact with my doctor’s office and making sure they had more info (the x-ray and treatments since I guess?) before approving. Last week I left multiple voice mails with my doctor’s office through the week. I got a call back from a nurse on Friday and unfortunately missed it (I’m waddling right now and literally couldn’t get to my phone fast enough). I called the number that she said to contact and it’s just the regular number for the office. Left ANOTHER message, then called hours later to just see if I could get to the appointment desk or any human being yet I got an answering machine again. Today (Tuesday) I called and once again could only get an answering machine via the appointment desk and the nurse line.

So I don’t know what to do. Do I call my insurance again to ask what the heck is going on? Do I spend money to visit another doctor for them to maybe go to task against my insurance to get an MRI covered? It counts as two MRI’s because it’s both ankles and out of pocket that’s 400$ on the cheaper end after shopping around, which I don’t have right now. I have “good” insurance that supposedly covers a lot, but I’m at my wits end and my ankles have plateaued in their healing, getting worse if I walk and otherwise having a baseline “bad”.
