Is it possible to get new insurance to cover the therapist that I’ve built a good relationship with even though he is out of network?

I started a new job in November so my insurance changed. My therapist is not covered under the new plan so my sessions with him have gone from $25 to $150.

For therapy to be effective, you need to find a therapist that you trust and have a good relationship with. This has been difficult for me to find over the past 16 years. My current therapist has finally been able to help me, but I can't afford to pay $150/session.

In a "fair" world, insurance would cover any therapist that you've built a relationship with. Is there any chance that insurance companies understand this and if so, how can I get my therapist covered?

Also, I've already submitted a superbill to them for my last few sessions and they rejected the claim. I want to appeal but wonder if there is any specific way to frame my appeal.

My old insurance was BCBS of Colorado. New insurance is Cigna. If it matters.
