is there a problem if I pay for coverage before going on to an employer plan?

So I live in California and I'm transitioning jobs soon. From the transition I am expecting to be without insurance for two months unless I do COBRA, but I was wondering if instead of COBRA I could just pay the premium for an insurance plan for those two months.

My new employer uses Kaiser and my idea is that I would esentially pay for a plan through them for that time and then canceling when my wait period for coverage with my new employer is over and I can enroll with them. Would that cause any issues? I contacted a rep and they told me that canceling wouldn't be a problem but idk if there's a catch somewhere with this that would cause issues for when I plan to enroll with my new employer.

As for the purpose of the insurance it's really just for in case of emergencies. I have a big fear of emergency room bills with 0 coverage.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!! 😊
