“Life Event” – New Job Insurance Questions

My family (husband and children) have been enrolled on my insurance for all of 2023. It is outrageously expensive ($17k in premiums, we have met our $10,250 OOP max). Everything is now covered 100%.

Enter good news >> My husband just got a new job with great insurance. He starts November 20. His benefits go into effect on the day he starts work.

My HR director told me that I have 31 days from his start date to report the “life event” that he and my daughters will be dropped from my current insurance and switched to his. She said that then, the first day of the following month they will be officially off my insurance.

Ie: He starts November 20, I let them know mid-December, they are effectively dropped from our insurance January 1, 2024.

My question is, since we have met all of our deductibles/OOP… if we have appointments and procedures booked and planned for late November and December, how will this work from an insurance perspective? My HR person said they would likely use my husband’s new insurance as primary, mine as secondary. I am a little bit confused about this part. If my daughter has a procedure done on November 30… will they first send the claim to my husband’s new insurance, and whatever isn’t covered goes to my insurance – and since we have met our out of pocket max, any remaining balance will be covered 100%?

Just want to be clear we don’t have to now meet a new deductible with his new insurance for the last month of the year…and then it all resets on January 1.
