medical insurance for my mother- how to avoid the scams and get legit coverage

Hi

My father passed away last year. My mother was under his employee insurance and now I need to help her find insurance for herself.

I used a website that I googled to make sure was legit (everything came up saying it was). They called me and we discussed her insurance needs. We paid for her first month and they said it was through first health. I then helped her to set up her log in and the website just screams scammy. It just says benefits portal and comes up with legacy group for any contact. It’s literally nothing like my insurance website is. It makes me super uncomfortable and now I’m stressed that I messed up. I called to cancel but they’re telling me the cancelation department is closed and I have to call back tomorrow morning. I plan on doing so and even hitting up her bank and seeing what we need to do if they don’t work with me.

Has anyone ever dealt with something like that? And where should I look to get her legit coverage like UHC that’s actually somewhat affordable?

Thanks
