Need insurance for Wife and Baby, not for the dad

I am the dad. I work for a job that has shitty health insurance but lots of flexibility and great people. My wife is a private contractor. My baby is 9 months old. None of us have major health concerns, but I am also a military veteran, and I get alot of free stuff from the VA(which isn't great or timely, but it's free). What I need is to NOT buy my job's insurance(which is 1200 a month for 3 people), and then enroll just my wife and my baby in some sorta plan. The baby is on CHIP(Medicaid for Children, Infants and Pregnant Women I think), but now that I have a job she's over the income limit of that CHIP program for Kansas.

What solution is there for my wife who is a contractor, and my baby who needs coverage but NOT for me. I asked my job and they said they must have me enrolled in order to cover my two dependents. Healthcare.gov said they can't cover my wife because we file jointly, and she and baby are eligible for coverage via commercial insurance through my job.

Any thoughts? Thanks,
