Hi Folks, so we recently welcomed a baby who had to be admitted to the nicu right after delivery at 34 weeks. So the baby was intubated and taken to NICU right after the delivery to be admitted. Once the baby was transported and admitted, doctor handed over a form to consent to treat but he did not mention or explain anything about what we are signing up for and it looked like we had no option but to sign it. As we were in network hospital we went ahead and signed it. Later after a month or so they have submitted the claims of about $55K out of network and insurance has only paid them the in-network prices. I am not sure if that was the consent form we signed? Did we waive our rights and will we be balance billed? Does anyone have such experience and how to tackle it? For sure it was a tough, long and overwhelming time for us and didn’t really have much knowledge, experience or energy to ask if they are part of in-network or not back then. Please let me know what to expect. As of now we have not received any bills but really anxious to see those claims on the insurance portal.
