I started a new job about 5 months ago and I had to enroll in benefits sometime around my 90 day mark. I was super busy with work and it just wasn’t on my mind so I missed the window to apply for health coverage by a few weeks.
It was a really tight window and it just wasn’t on my mind which I mean I do have to take fault for that.

The issue is that in my previous jobs I was always given paperwork by management to enroll automatically and it was all very organized. If I did not want to enroll in any of my previous jobs I had to sign a waiver stating that I do not want to be covered under the company’s health care. I always of course elected to be enrolled so it was all very easy.

They are saying I missed my window and I have to wait until next April for open enrollment. ALMOST ANOTHER YEAR FROM NOW. I just want to know if this is something that they are being shady about or if I was just hand held at every other organization I’ve worked at. I am in Virginia btw

I’ve tried to reach out to HR about it but they are just saying I am out of luck and even though management didn’t help me through it, it’s not their fault. Do they legally have to give me a waiver form? I never denied coverage, I would have accepted right away
