Our Health insurance from work was cancelled without our knowledge.

My (M26) wife (F25) worked for a national big box retailer in KY and had health insurance through them.

She gave birth in March and was allowed up to 16 weeks off by her employer. They planned to have her back on week 8.

There were complications and my wife tore badly. She could barely move for months. She went back on week 16 still not fully healed.

Apparently in June, our health insurance was dropped by the employer’s benefit department. We find this out in August. Citing a lack of payment. We called and explained that we had never received a bill, plus she didn’t go back to work until August.

They tell my wife not to worry, to send in necessary forms and they can back date it.

They only back dated to August and refuse to go any further. This means we are now responsible for a bout of COVID testing, a minor surgery, and several doctor’s visits without any insurance.

She has left the job for a better one, but we are still trying to get this resolved.

Do I need to get a lawyer involved? Are there any actions I can take?
