Out of network provider charging me Labcorp fees, not Labcorp themselves (CA, USA)

Hi, I saw an out of network provider that made a few sets of Labcorp orders for me over a period of a few months and now that provider is billing me $800 for Labcorp fees. These labs were always done in an actual Labcorp and not pulled in my provider’s office. My provider says, “This needs to be paid, as it’s not for our time or services, it’s a bill that we’ve already paid Labcorp for you. I worked for 3 months to get you a 3K discount on these labs, which is why I wasn’t able to charge you for them until recently, when we finally get the adjusted bill.”

I’ve seen many out of network providers who have ordered tests for me at Labcorp before, but have never had this happen before. I asked my provider for a superbill for these Labcorp fees with CPT and ICD10 codes, but they essentially just sent me a receipt with “Labcorp Tests” and the Labcorp directory test IDs. Can someone help me understand?

Every single other time an out of network provider has created a Labcorp requisition for me, Labcorp will bill my insurance for coverage and I will owe Labcorp any remaining amount. This time there is no record of this happening – there is not an EOB from my insurance or a related claim to my insurance from Labcorp.

I have a very good aetna plan with both the deductible and yearly out of pocket maximum reached, so I’d expect them to cover most of those Labcorp tests if they were billed as i thought they were going to be.
