Paying for insurance but have not been able to get access to a doctor. What are our options?

My husband has been paying for insurance through his company since he started there almost 3 years ago. He has not needed to see a doctor until he got sick around September last year (he wasn’t getting general checkups), but none of the doctors we contacted from the insurance’s list of available providers were taking new patients (or they simply would not respond to calls/voicemails).

We contacted his insurance carrier about this and they told us they would check to see which doctor in our area is currently taking new patients and would get back to us within 2-3 days. We never heard back and he ended up having to go to urgent care and paid for it out of pocket.

Currently he is in need of a doctor to get general checkups and to treat his recently discovered high blood pressure (he had to get a blood test and that’s how we found out he had high blood pressure). We tried contacting available doctors in his network and same thing, no one we tried is accepting patients. And we tried contacting his insurance carrier and they said the same thing, that they’ll look for a doctor accepting patients and get back to us but again – radio silence.

We will be heading to see a doctor and paying for it out of pocket because we don’t want to wait anymore. What are our options with regards to having paid for insurance but being unable to access any doctors for care?

TLDR; husband has been paying for insurance and cannot access doctors within his network so also continues to pay out of pocket to see healthcare providers. Wanting to know what we can do about this as it doesn’t make sense to be paying for insurance that doesn’t actually do anything for him?
