Scroll for TL;DR.

I live in NY. I got married Sept 3rd. I have been basically disabled for a while now (getting any benefits or recognition of this would be near impossible for me though), and I struggle to get important tasks done.

People assured me in good faith I would find a better marketplace option than my husband's insurance through work. Believing them, I let myself procrastinate. I mistakenly thought I had 60 days, not 31 to make this change.

At the 11th hour we found there were no better plans and he reenrolled in his work plan and added me. Now, I don't think it will be in effect for me until Jan 1st.

So I have been "cheating the government" unwittingly for a month and don't want to continue to, but I also already screwed myself over, so idk if it would even help to find a plan or try to get added to his faster for just two months(ish). I'm also not sure how I will be penalized for this, which scares me.

TL;DR: I was confused and preoccupied when it came to changing insurance after marriage and my chances lapsed. Now I don't know what this means for me and what to do.
