Prescriptions, prior auths and secondary insurance

I have been taking a prescription medication for a year and a half. In September, my employer’s insurance stopped covering it without a prior authorization with just a week and a half of notice, and the prior authorization was denied. I have been paying for it out of pocket since.

My husband’s insurance through his employer does cover the medication without a prior authorization as of right now, per his HR department. (She looked it up online in front of him. This of course could change at any time.)

My options are to totally switch to his insurance, OR it sounds like I could sign up for both insurances and have my employer’s as primary and his as secondary.

But if I do that, would the secondary insurance cover a medication my primary denies via prior authorization? Or would my secondary insurance technically not have cover it because the primary does in some instances, just not mine?
