Hey! I appreciate any insight anybody can offer.

I have a unique situation. I’ll try to include all relevant information but please ask me to clarify anything that’s not clear.

I live in NJ and work two full-time jobs. I have enrolled in health insurance in both jobs this year. I’m trying to sort out which insurance is primary and which is secondary. Both plans are under my name and I’m the only participant–no spouse or children.

Job 1 is in education. I’ve been there 11 years and work for the state. The carrier is Horizon BCBS NJ.

Job 2 is in healthcare. I’ve been with the company 6 years. The company was bought out and merged with another healthcare company. This is the first year I’ve taken health insurance from them. The carrier is Horizon BCBS of Tennessee.

They also both use Optum for prescription coverage.

I’m planning to quit job 1 in the coming months and didn’t want to worry about setting up coverage after.

How do I figure out which is primary and which is secondary? Do I need to call the insurance companies to sort it?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
