Questions about going on my partner’s plan, not married

Hi all! So I currently work as a "per diem" nurse. Which basically means I have more flexibility in my career but don't have to work full time so I do not get benefits through my employer.

Currently I pay for my health insurance out of pocket, I get it through Pennsylvania's penny website. I have Independence blue cross Keystone plan east and Dominion National for dental – less than ideal but I'm in good health.

I've been with my boyfriend for 3 years. Since Jan 2023, I've been spending 4 nights a week at his house. August 2023 I officially started moving all my things to his house to move in, and as of September I officially live with him.

I would like to join his health (as well as dental and vision) insurance as soon as possible and he is open to that. But I am unsure of the rules… I know that open enrollment is coming up so I wanted to get information before that.

I was told by a friend that I do not need to be married to him, that I only need to have been living with him for 6 months to be eligible to go on his plan. My question is, what counts as living together? Would me sleeping there 4 nights a week count towards the 6 months of me living there?

If nt frequent sleepovers don't count towards 6 months of me living there, is there a way for me to get added to his plan in February (6 months from september)? How would this effect my insurance through penny? Could I potentially cancel my penny insurance (ibx Keystone east, dental is dominion national) at any time?

And lastly, is all of this entirely dependent on the insurance he has, or do these rules apply across the board to anyone with health insurance?

Please let me know if I need to include more information! Thank you for any and all advice/answers!
