Sent bill for blood work for a routine check-up

Hi folks,

I got a bill for just over $100 that appears to have not been sent to my insurance at all. There's no record of a claim for what they sent me on my insurance site. The charge is for lab work for a blood draw, cholesterol and lipid screening and an a1c blood test. These were all ordered based upon a routine check-up.

We have a HDHP today – so if these charges are not part of a standard preventative check-up then we'll likely be on the hook. But I'm suspicious for a few reasons:

If these charges weren't sent through our insurance, I don't see how they would be then counted as dollars against our deductible. If these charges are not covered by our insurance, I'm likely on the hook for the prices, but basic screenings seem to be something that is covered by law for preventative check-ups. Wouldn't these be considered pretty standard screenings? Based upon the provider's website, a basic blood draw is "typically $10", but they charged me $22 – which makes me think they are sending me this bill with inflated charges to get me to just pay it.

It's not like I can't afford the bill and I do have a HSA to take care of the bill. But I don't want to pay something I shouldn't be charged for. Any thoughts as to whether this is legit before I go try and call the billing department to dispute the charges?
