Should I join my wife’s PPO family plan or carry single HDHP for the HSA?

My wife and I are expecting twins later this year! She has a PPO (I believe) through her employer and I have a HDHP. We’re planning for the kids to join her plan which jumps us past single +1 and straight to the family plan. I could join her plan and there’d be no difference in the premium; however, I’d like to stay on my employer’s single HDHP because they cover 95% of the premium and contribute $800 to the HSA. I save into it each paycheck too and then invest the money into mutual funds for the tax benefits now and in the future.

My concern is that if something where to happen to us… we both get hospital sick at the same time for example. Would we then have to pay two deductibles and have two out of pocket maximums? It seems unlikely we’d get THAT sick at the same time so low risk of it happening, and I think the tax breaks and potential investment gains from the HSA are worth the risk of multiple deductibles, etc.

Am I overlooking anything? Thoughts and advice welcomed.
