Special Enrollment Period Qualification

So some background. I live in Maryland. I have ESRD so I’m eligible for Medicare. My 30 month coordination period for ESRD ends in October so I will need Medicare by October. I am currently enrolled in COBRA which is about $658/month. However, COBRA ends when I get new insurance including Medicare so it will end in October anyways.

Since I don’t have enough work credits and I need Medicare Part A to get Medigap, so it seems like marketplace insurance combined with Medicare Part B would be the cheapest solution, other than possibly finding a job before October.

My job coverage was up until 06/29. So I think I have until the end of August to apply for marketplace insurance. But when I get Medicare and lose COBRA in October, would that also count as a Special Enrollment Period or would I have to enroll before the end of August?

EDIT: Please don’t private chat me about some insurance that’s too good to be true and probably isn’t ACA-compliant. And it’s clearly obvious when someone hasn’t really read the post, considering I said “Medicare” and not “Medicaid”. Medicaid is dependent on income and assets.
