Urgent deductible carryover question. Need to make insurance decision by midnight EST tonight.

I’m in an unfortunate situation, with awful timing. I switched to a new insurance company, with a start date of Feb 1. I wasn’t pleased with the way my previous insurer handled routine claims, and its awful customer support.

Both the old and new Bronze plans are on the NY marketplace.

I broke my ankle, and will likely need surgery this week. So I’ll probably be maxing out my deductible. Then on Feb 1 I’ll have my deductible reset to 0 with the new insurer.

If I re-enroll for my old plan (deadline is midnight tonight for Feb 1 coverage) my understanding is that it’s a new contract for Feb 1, so my deductible will reset to 0. So there’s no real benefit to going back to them.

In 2021 there was a NY regulation that required deductible carryovers when switching plans within the same insurance company. I don’t know if this still applies, but I’m not counting on it.

I don’t know if I can unwind my Feb 1 change. I’d have to call NY State of Health on Tuesday.

Any advice would be appreciated.
