What happens if I sign up for a plan through the ACA marketplace but at the end of the year don’t meet the min. income threshold?

I recently moved to Maryland and have currently been waiting to get approved for medicaid since February. Over the last few months I've gotten a better job that pays a little more, so there's a chance I'll make above the Medicaid threshold. I can't calculate it exactly since I'm paid on commission, my I think my ending salary will be at least a few hundred bucks over.

Since I don't know for sure and I'm so close to the threshold, I'm tempted to just reapply for a regular ACA plan that isn't under medicaid. I would much prefer just paying for private insurance with a tax credit since my experiences with Medicaid in the past have been less than stellar. But I don't know what will happen if I file my taxes and I end up under the minimum threshold to get coverage through the marketplace. Is there some kind of penalty? Is there a penalty if I stay on Medicaid and end up making over the limit?
