What’s the safest route? Where to give birth.

I can’t believe that I find myself in this predicament while almost 41 weeks pregnant on a holiday weekend (when insurance and drs office are closed). Thank god for this subreddit.

I thought I was all set to deliver my baby when she decided to show up. I talked with my insurance in April to make sure the hospital I was to deliver at was in my network (the hospital shows up as in network on my insurance app too). I then spoke with my medical group 3 weeks ago and was told that I needed authorization to deliver. They then checked the system and they saw that I had authorization to deliver at that hospital and “I’m all good.”

Fast forward to two days ago when my Dr wanted to schedule me for an induction. Dr’s office calls me and says that the hospital is no longer contracted with my medical group and they can’t schedule an induction for me. But I should still deliver at that hospital since I have an approved pre-authorization to do so and “they might honor it.” Doctor is not affiliated with any other hospital so they can’t send me somewhere else but “but they understand if I choose to deliver somewhere else.” Dr says I don’t need authorization to deliver at any hospital which contradicts what 3 insurance representatives have told me on the phone.

I’m so confused and frustrated. The hospital still shows as in network on my app. I’ve been to this hospital twice (once in March and once in June) at the ER and it was billed as “in network.”

At the same time, my Summary of Benefits paperwork says that no pre-authorization is needed for childbirth services yet medical group and insurance representatives have repeatedly told me that without authorization I’ll receive a bill.

My question is: what’s my safest route? Go ahead and deliver at my Dr’s hospital because I have authorization? Or go somewhere else without authorization? Any insight would be appreciated.
