The X4 is related to the X3 compact SUV, but its reshaped bodywork features a lower, more sloping roofline.
Our test car’s optional M Sport package includes body-color wheel-opening moldings and rockers, as well as Shadowline exterior trim.
X4 variants get as racy as the 503-hp X4 M Competition, but the base X4 xDrive30i is powered by a 248-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four.
The X4 xDrive30i sends the four-cylinder engine’s 258 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels, as all-wheel drive is standard.
An M Sport suspension and Variable Sport steering are included on the X4.
Under the rear liftgate, the X4 has 24 cubic feet of luggage space with the rear seats in place, which amounts to five fewer cubic feet than an X3.

The X4 has less rear-seat headroom and legroom than an X3, but it is still tolerable for average-sized adults.
