My experience with Nicotine and Life Insurance

I searched through Reddit prior to my medical screening for life insurance seeking how long to abstain from nicotine to purge my system of cotinine before the test. I just got my results back negative, so I figured I’d share my experience.

I am a male, 30 years old, 185 pounds. I smoke a disposable vape semi-regularly, no cigarettes, and will have a cigar maybe 3-4 times a year. Prior to the test, I had been smoking my vape (a Vuse w/ 2.4 mg carts) at a rate of about 1 cart per two days. I had been doing this for about 6 months prior to the test. I stopped the vape 10 days prior to the test (I would have preferred more but that’s how long I had). I drank water constantly (though I normally do this anyways). I was fairly sedentary during this time due to a lingering injury I have, but I hear increasing your activity helps metabolize it out of your system. Three days before, I bought some pure cranberry juice and drank the whole bottle over two days. The last day, I just continued drinking a ton of water. Ended up testing negative.

Just sharing my experience. Life insurance fraud is no joke, and I haven’t gone back to smoking the vape yet. I still intend to keep it for casual use, and intend to smoke a cigar at celebratory occasions. But just wanted to share my experience in case others are looking for guidance.

BONUS ABOUT ALCOHOL: I would abstain from alcohol 3 days ahead of the test if possible. I had the test the Tuesday after my Dad’s 60th birthday weekend, where we drank a ton. This elevated several areas of my screening. I only drink on weekends during social events normally. Just a thought.
