Need help with husband life insurance policy he’s had forever! I feel like its not a good policy.

I don’t know too much about life insurance, but I’m trying to learn more about it! Thanks for your help!

My husband has had this life insurance policy for forever! His older brother was an agent pushed life insurance policies onto him and his siblings! During the time my husband was barely 18 i think.

He’s been paying $25 or so a month since then! And he’s 30 now! I never looked into his policy because I didn’t understand it to be honest. But now I’m getting into life insurance, retirement and etc and learning more. Better late than never 🙂

I just looked into his account. Its an Indexed Universal Life policy for $50,000. My understanding is whatever he has paid since then, was invested into an S&P500, so it is now worth $51400.

From reading this sub, universal life insurance is not worth it correct?! Did his brother screw us?? I can’t wrap my head around it. Be brutally honest please if we’re wasting money on this. Husband kept telling me, its just $25, but I feel we can put that to something else. Or at least a better policy.

But from having this policy for 10+ years, what do we do from here? Thanks for any insight and advice! I really appreciate it.
