AXA XL Re expands Head of Property role in Bermuda, promotes Abend to it

AXA XL Reinsurance (AXA XL Re), the reinsurance arm of AXA XL and part of the global AXA Group, has created a new role in Bermuda, Head of Property, and promoted Tristan Abend to it, giving him responsibility for all US and International property reinsurance business written on the island.

Abend has been part of the property treaty team for AXA XL Reinsurance for more than 10 years.

He’s served in a variety of roles at AXA XL Re, including, most recently, International Product Lead for the Property segment and before that as the Head of International Property for Bermuda and London.

Now, as Head of Property, Abend will manage property treaty reinsurance for AXA XL Re in Bermuda, working withits clients and underwriting team.

Mark Twite, Chief Executive Officer, Bermuda, Reinsurance at AXA XL, commented on the news, “Tristan has been a key part of our Property team for 10 years.

“As we develop our product strategies in relation to this key line of business his knowledge and experience will be vital to ensuring we service our clients effectively and ensure our long-term sustainability in the market.”

The expansion of this role and Abend’s promotion to it comes after AXA XL Re’s Head of US Property, Bermuda left the company recently.

Abend joined AXA XL’s Bermuda reinsurance operation in September 2012.

Prior to joining AXA XL Re, Abend was a Senior Underwriter with Flagstone Reinsurance Ltd., where he held a range of underwriting positions from 2005. Before that, Abend worked as an Underwriter with ACE Tempest Reinsurance Ltd.

As Head of Property for AXA XL’s Reinsurance division, Abend will likely need to work closely with AXA XL ILS Capital Management, the companies dedicated unit for third-party reinsurance capital management.
