Everest Re taps new A&H head


Everest Re Group has announced the appointment of Shawn Austin (pictured above) as senior vice president and head of accident and health for North America, effective Oct. 24. Austin will be based in New York and will report to Jim Williamson, Everest Group chief operating officer and head of reinsurance.

In his new role, Austin will lead strategy development and execution for accident and health in North America. He will be responsible for expanding Everest Re’s products and services within the A&H market.

“Shawn is the most recent example of our deep investment in best-in-class talent,” Williamson said. “Shawn’s strong leadership skills and demonstrated track record building new businesses enable us to capitalize on increased market demand for innovative health solutions.”

Austin has 25 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Everest, he served as head of AIG’s North American A&H business. He has also held senior positions at Liberty Mutual.

Austin will succeed Lou Monteagudo in the role. Monteagudo is retiring in December after 26 years with Everest Re.

“On behalf of the company, I want to thank Lou for his leadership and contributions to the A&H business and wish him all the best in his retirement,” Williamson said.
