Gallagher Re hires Aon meteorologist Steve Bowen

Gallagher Re, the reinsurance arm of the Gallagher broking group, has announced the hiring of senior meteorologist Steve Bowen from rival Aon, as it builds-out its scientific arm.

Bowen takes on the newly created position of Chief Science Officer within the reinsurance brokers’ Global Analytics & Advisory unit.

Bowen is based in Chicago and will have a global role at Gallagher Re, working closely with the recently launched Gallagher Research Centre, Global Catastrophe Analytics, and the Climate and ESG teams. He joins the business on 3 October 2022.

Bowen has a background in meteorology and business analytics and started his career in broadcast television before moving to the insurance industry in 2007.

He spent 15 years at Aon, most recently as Managing Director and the Head of Catastrophe Insight.

He has been a frequent collaborator with governmental agencies, academia and industry groups, and very well-known across the risk and insurance spectrum as an expert in his field.
