ICA to meet with flood-impacted customers in Brisbane

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and insurers will head to Moorooka and Sandgate this week to conduct in-person meetings with flood-impacted customers.

The in-person meetings enable customers to discuss their claims and work through any issues they may be experiencing with their insurer at a time that suits them. The meetings will be held from mid-day to 8pm on:

Wednesday, November 23, Moorooka Community Centre, Moorooka; and
Thursday, November 24, Sandgate Townhall, Sandgate.

This year’s floods across southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales (NSW) cost $5.56 billion, making it Australia’s costliest flood. Insurers continue to manage and close claims, with over 62% of more than 236,400 claims finalised from the severe weather event.

“It’s nine months since heavy rainfall and swollen rivers led to destructive flooding across Brisbane and southeast Queensland,” said ICA CEO Andrew Hall. “Many customers attended similar in-person meetings held earlier this year, meeting with ICA representatives or their insurer.

“While insurers are available by phone or web channels, we know that many people prefer to discuss their claims in person, so we are ensuring there is an opportunity for this face-to-face interaction to occur.”

Appointments are essential. Customers may book on insurancecouncil.com.au/bookings.

The in-person meetings will be held as insurers continue to monitor yet another flood in NSW, declared a significant event by the ICA.
